An old Horinees once said,  “Hoorn is a place you’ve got to experience, it can’t be explaint on a sheet of paper.”He was right: You’ve got to see it, smell it, taste it, but most of all feel it! Whatever season or weather, it does not matter. In this old Zuiderzee-town is always something to enjoy. Visit the most interesting sighting from the past of the Dutch East Indian Company, shop ‘till you drop in the historical centre, visit the museums or one of the music- or cultural events .

Every year thousands of people enjoy their visit to Hoorn.

Hoorn is a real shoppingcity, with an atmospheric centre and a large variety of shops. Fashion, antique, curiosa, books and pieces of juwellery, you can find it here! Lots of events are held in the city centre throughout the year.  Saturday is market day! During the summerseason the wednesdaymarket offers another theme every week with lots of stands. Since a few years the Cheesemarket is restored to its former glory.

Harbour from a distand past

Especially on the wooden landing pier, it seems that time stood still. The sails are hoist up, the deck being polished and you can almost smell the nutmeg that was being trade from far lands overseas. The ship-boys of Bontekoe glance, for ever in bronze, over de IJsselmeer as if they are waiting for their ship which takes them to the far East.

Culture and atmosphere

The activity in and around the water is what the harbour makes an ideal spot for terracces, bars and restaurants. Take your pick in the wide variaty of restaurant throughout the city. The museums that Hoorn has to offer are worth a visit. Like the small Toymuseum, the Postermuseum or the museum Nederland – Turkey. Travel through time within the Westfries Museum which displays the history of the town. The Museum of the 20th Century shows a less distand past and is fun for everyone. Literally traveling through time starts at the Stoomtram Museum. A steamtram takes you for a ride from Hoorn to Medemblik. But that is not all. Hoorn offers over 300 monuments,  from churches, wharehouses and aristocratic houses, which give the town a unique touch.
